So, what’s a Duathlon?

A duathlon consists of three sets of athletic activity, but across two disciplines – running and cycling. The first set consists of running, followed by cycling, and then back to running. The distances of each activity vary depending on the challenge you choose… and there are plenty! Similar to a triathlon, you will go through transition to change between disciplines but don’t let that scare you!

Christmas Break

Thanks to everyone who ran with us this year.  We are taking a break for Christmas and we hope to be back in the New Year, and maybe with a few changes.

What a great year 2012 has been for Home Run. We have grown to 7,000 members, won at the Event Awards and some of our Home Runners have even appeared on TV and in the newspapers!  Over the whole year we delivered a grand total of 645 Home Runs all over London, and we have enjoyed chatting and running with you all.

A big thank you goes out to all our partners, Run Leaders, drivers/cyclists and most of all to you for helping make Home Run what it is.

Have a great Christmas and see you in 2013!

Event Awards 2012 Winners

Samsung Home Run helps raise £2,900

Unique during the Olympic period, Samsung launched The Samsung Hope Relay campaign as a meaningful initiative to help leave a lasting legacy beyond the Games.

The Samsung Hope Relay application was free to download on most smartphone platforms, and for every mile ran, Samsung donated £1 to Samsung Hope Relay designated children’s charities.

Our team, consisting of over 70 members, racked up the mileage and helped raise over £2,900! A special thank you to our loyal cyclist, Alice, who raised just under £500 of this, and a Samsung Home Run regular, Jes, who raised over £250! Both of you, along with many others, helped the Samsung Home Run team finish 14th in the overall team rankings!

Wish us luck!

We are very happy to announce that we have been shortlisted for Best Sustainable Initiative in the 2012 Event Awards! The winner will be announced in October, but in the meantime we will be keeping all fingers and toes crossed.

Martin Howard, Sponsorship Account Director at Samsung comments, “We are thrilled to be shortlisted for this year’s Events Award - Best Sustainable Initiative. Samsung Home Run has grown from strength to strength, attracting over 6,000 commuters to sign up and to consider an alternative commute.  We are not only providing a sustainable journey home but also through the Samsung Hope Relay app, we are giving £1 to charity for every mile completed.  This presents a fantastic opportunity to encourage Londoners to “do some good”.

Let us introduce the Samsung Home Run

www.samsung.com/hoperelay

Samsung Electronics, the Worldwide Olympic Partner in the wireless communications equipment category, have become our title partner.

To launch the partnership, Emily Pidgeon, Team Samsung and GB 5000m athlete, attended our Canary Wharf to Waterloo and London Bridge run last night.  Despite the weather, the group enjoyed meeting Emily and getting freebies from Samsung.

Samsung has created the Samsung Hope Relay app to provide people around the world with the opportunity to take part virtually in the Olympic Torch Relay.  Last night, our runners were the first to use the Samsung Hope Relay app to record their Home Run as part of the Home Run team.  Samsung will donate £1 to Children’s Charities for every mile you run – so everyone who used it last night will have raised £5.

Get Ahead of the Games

With just twenty five days until the start of the London 2012 Games, former Olympian Iwan Thomas has teamed up with Transport for London (TfL) and London 2012’s Get Ahead of the Games campaign, to encourage Londoners to plan ahead and change their travel to avoid being delayed by transport hotspots during the Games.

Iwan Thomas commented: “During the Olympic period, transports links across London will see a large increase in traffic. Do your bit to help alleviate transport congestion and fitter in the process by pulling on your trainers and taking part in one of the 15 routes available through Home Run.

Home Run offers guided runs across the city, which cater for every pace and there’s no excuse when it comes to bags either as each route has dedicated rickshaws on hand to carry valuables all the way home.  Why not use this Olympic period to maximise your potential and be part of what will be a London Games legacy by joining thousands of runners commuting with Home Run each week.”

21st May 2012

Happy Birthday... to us!

This week celebrates Home Run's 1st birthday! In a year we have launched 10 routes and signed up more than 5,000 members. We look forward to running you home for years to come!

Yahoo! News Website of the Day: Home Run London

Home Run has received the Yahoo! News 'WEBSITE OF THE DAY' status!

"A fairly niche audience for this one, admittedly, but we still think it's a brilliant idea – especially as most Londoners are starting to wonder how the hell they're going to get around once the Olympics start in a couple of months. Our nation's capital is hardly famous for its efficient public transport at the best of times."

 Check it out here.

The word is spreading...

The word really is spreading about Home Run. In our launch week we were inundated with positive messages from the media, the running world and Londoners.

On Monday, BBC London News ran two features on Home Run at 1,30pm and 6.30pm, both approximately 2 minutes long, and on Tuesday an article appeared in the Metro.

Home Run also featured as the Editor’s Choice on RunnersWorld.co.uk.  Among others, Home Run was also the talking point in:

- Time Out
- All In London
- BBC London Radio
- LBC
- London24.com
- Run247
- TNT Magazine
- The Wharf
- Women’s Fitness

As a result, over 3,000 Londoners have registered their route vote, making Home Run the increasingly popular alternative to the post-work commute!

Did you spot us?

In the week before and during our official launch week, Home Run was shouting loudly all across the capital. We’ve been handing out our Handy Travel Guides for Tourists and been issuing Tube travellers with a Red Card to give to any annoying commuters!  Check out our social media pages to see these quirky hand-outs.

You may well have seen us if you travel in to or from Blackfriars, High Street Kensington, London Bridge, Stratford, Tower Hill, Waterloo and West Ham! If you did, we hope you said hello!

Ho Ho Home Run!

At the end of last year we celebrated Christmas in the Home Run fashion with the Ho Ho Home Run! Our large group could be easily spotted, wearing flashing Santa hats, as we ran from Bank to Waterloo to Clapham Junction.

The festive cheer continued post run as we provided drinks and nibbles at Vodka Revolution at Clapham Junction. We also crowned our Home Runners of the year Stephanie George and Sidney Cole who were our most dedicated runners in 2011 on the Tuesday and Wednesday routes respectively.

A massive thank you goes out to everyone who attended for making the Ho Ho Home Run such a successful and enjoyable evening. Please check out our Facebook page to view pictures of the evening.

We’ve got exciting plans for 2012 and look forward to running with you throughout the year!

Home Run comes to Canary Wharf!

Tuesday 22nd of November saw the Home Run team making their first stop off at Canary Wharf, as part of the launch of an exciting new route that will be challenging yet more workers to get fit as they get home.   Dressed in our distinctive orange Home Run T-shirts, stylish running gear and accompanied by the Home Run BagBikes, our friendly faces could easily be spotted at our location in Cabot Place providing both information and free giveaways. Additionally, we were offering the opportunity for workers to vote for their route so that the front running route can be launched from Canary Wharf in the upcoming weeks.

We were delighted with the phenomenal response and interest that we received and will be announcing the new route soon. We are in the final stages of planning to create the most enjoyable route we can, but look forward to having more commuters leaving the Tube behind and joining us for a sociable and healthy journey home instead.

A massive thank you to everyone that we met on the day and we can’t wait to see you on the first Canary Wharf Home Run soon!

Keep your eyes on the website, Facebook and Twitter for more information, and get your trainers at the ready!

6th October 2011

3 new routes, 25 new runners, 1 enjoyable commute!

Tuesday 4th October saw a fantastic turn out for our first ever Home Runs leaving from Bank and Waterloo.  A total of 25 runners took to the streets of London in their orange t-shirts and weaved their way along the South Bank, streamed alongside the Thames, and meandered through Battersea Park.

After enjoying the freedom of running without a bag, runners were reunited with their belongings at Clapham Junction after a 50-90 minute workout, content with a much more enjoyable commute than usual.  The group picked up their free Home Run backpacks, and left with promises to come along next week.

It was great to see so many new faces, and hear the variety of reasons for joining us.  Whatever your motivation, you can get involved.  Book in today to secure your space.

A big thank you to all those who joined us last night – we hope to see you all next week.

A Quick 10 Questions… the results!

Thank you to all those who completed our “Quick 10 Questions” survey.  We‘ve had a fantastic response and the lucky winner of the running kit will be announced at the end of this week.

We‘ve had some fascinating results, which will shape the future of Home Run.  The thing you loved most about Home Run was the bag carrying service.  Running with a bag can be uncomfortable and extremely inconvenient, so we are delighted that this is your #1.

Everyone has their own motivations for running.  You’ve said that you run to get fit, to challenge yourself and to lose weight.  Home Run enables you to run at your own pace, so you get out of it what you want.

Unsurprisingly, not many of you fancied running home on a Friday, with Wednesday the most popular day.  Our assumption is that exercising on a Wednesday helps to give you a mid-week lift and time to de-stress.   The most popular time to depart was 6pm.  Leaving London on a Home Run at 6pm means you’re likely to be home by 7pm.  You can have dinner and relax knowing your exercise for that evening is done, and you’ve avoided a stranger’s armpit on the tube for another day!

The survey also showed us that you are really keen to run home with us, but the reason you haven’t done so far, is that we are not running your way yet.  This is a brand new initiative and we are working hard to develop it and start Home Runs all over London.  Watch this space as we are planning on launching our second route very shortly.

Home Run Launches

Home Runs have been leaving from Charing Cross and ending at Clapham Common, a 4 mile run. Participants have been dropping their bags with the cyclist and running home in about 40-50 minutes, chatting to new friends along the way. At the end runners collect their bag and make the remainder of their journey home.

Home Run means Londoners can leave the tube behind and save one of the most valuable commodities...time!

Sidney has been running with us since Home Run launched and has been really enjoying his new commute and commented that Home Run is "A great way of keeping fit, rediscovering London, meeting people and getting home. It's a no-brainer, try it!".

Home Run is encouraging everyone to sign up, the runs are targeted at novice/intermediate runners so anyone can take part. Let all of your friends and colleagues know so we can start running your way.
